As soon as JC Brooks takes the stage and fills the room with his booming, soulful voice, the audience is hooked. If you’re a Chicagoan you’ve probably been to many of these tightly packed, sweaty nights; the first timers in the crowd just stand there mesmerized. The classic yet modern soul vibe lifts everyone up as loyal fans throw down on the dance floor. Actually, the first time this A side–To Love Someone (That Don’t Love You)–was performed live it almost didn’t fit into their set. It’s the sweeter side of JC Brooks, a song that makes his falsetto glow in all its glory. But after a few bars of piano infected guitar melody, the crowd started swaying back and forth in a silky motion then the laid back groove took control of their feet. It’s the kind of tune that makes you want to drive a sunroof top into the summer sunset for an endless cool breeze to ride out the heat. If that doesn’t get you moving though, the blues groove on the flip–Everything Will Be Fine–will freshen your breath like green onions, a sure-shot stomper that’ll get all the ladies out on the floor.
